“Eastland and Northland Security Program Adds New Dimension”
Going to the Dogs is a Good Thing!
Eastland Center, Harper Woods, MI and Northland Center, Southfield, MI … Jones Lang LaSalle has recently announced yet another new initiative in its overall security program at both Eastland Center in Harper Woods and Northland Center in Southfield, Mich.. The properties recently partnered with K9 Academy to incorporate a new K9 Patrol initiative to its overall security program, effective immediately, in an effort to enhance the safety and security of the malls.
“The safety and security of our shoppers and employees is our number one priority at Eastland Center and Northland Center,” says Brent Reetz, General Manager, ” for both only enhance our efforts.”
The new K9 Patrol includes a trained handler and canine patrolling alongside mall security officers. The coverage of the days of week and hours per day will vary, and will certainly be escalated during peak retail seasons during the year and during key mall events. The K9 dogs are trained for a variety of purposes including narcotics and explosive detection but their main priority is the protection of public citizens.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this new program,” states Terry Foley, owner and director of K9 Academy. “We use friendly and obedient dogs and expect this new program to be a positive experience for everyone.”
The Eastland and Northland Center security programs also includes the following elements: 24-hour security, interior and exterior patrols, interior and exterior CCTV (closed circuit television), on duty police patrols, bicycle patrols during warmer months, P.E.P. (Parental Escort Program), on-going training for its officers, consistent scheduling reviews and adjustments, and working closely with the department store security programs and both the Southfield and the Harper Woods Police Departments. Additionally, Target at Eastland uses segways during various times of the year to get around the property.
“More than ever security has become a part of our lives no matter where we live, work, shop or play,” says Pam Lightbody, Marketing Manager for Eastland and Northland Centers. “This is one more layer to provide a comfortable environment for our shoppers and employees.”
Both properties use a contracted security service, IPC International. IPC is the largest and best security service provider in the U.S. For more than 35 years, IPC International has set the standard in meeting the protection needs of more than 450 properties worldwide.
Eastland Center initiated its P.E.P. (Parental Escort Policy) in 2004. The P.E.P. is designed to promote a comfortable shopping environment for all shoppers. Anyone under 18 years of age visiting Eastland Center after 5 p.m. must be with and under the direct supervision of at least one parent and/or guardian (age 21 or older) or responsible adult (age 21 or older) at all times. Parents and/or guardian, or the responsible adult, are responsible for the actions of the escorted minors.

K9 Academy Training Facility
The K9 Academy Training Facility, which has been open for more than eight years, is located in Wayne (located approximately 20 miles west of Detroit). The owner and director of the facility, Terry Foley, has been training and handling dogs for more than 20 years. A thorough tour of Foley´s completed K9 Academy Training Facility will convince you that the law enforcement veteran thought of everything. The complex is located in a 4,200-square-foot building and has become one of the premier K-9 training facilities in Michigan, if not the United States. The two-story academy is equipped with a variety of training devices, including ramps and agility courses that can simulate actual scenarios police dogs and their handlers encounter on a daily basis. There are also state-of-the-art boarding rooms for dogs and grooming facilities, as well as off-site houses and industrial buildings that can be utilized for specialized training.
